[Boober has been a very worried about Gobo and Riz's trip, because how can he not worry about them going to a volcano? Volcanoes are dangerous and unpredictable! But, at least he hadn't been stressing about them getting there! They were together, and Riz had his Pokemon, and Boober had leant Gobo a member of his team to ride, so Gobo had at least one stronger Pokemon with him. So while Boober is worrying, it's at least a somewhat distant worry. The big worrying would start when the two of them got to the volcano.
Or so Boober had thought, until he'd been on his Pokegear that evening and saw the video about the tunnels and the mysterious things within them. And he knows. He knows, as he makes a call to Gobo. that even if it's not too late, it's no good. This kind of stuff is right up both Gobo and Riz's alleys! Neither of them will be scared off by how risky it clearly is!]
Pick up, please pick up, pick up..... [When he hears that the call connects, he doesn't wait so much as a second.] Gobo! Are you two safe?
[At first the background is just the calls of Diglett. Many, many Diglett. Then there's Gobo's laugh and a somewhat distant voice, as if talking aside from a phone.]
Alright guys, take five eh? Time for a little break, I gotta take this.
[Okay, Gobo's talking to some people, so he's probably still above ground, right...?]
You guys are going to go down into the tunnels, aren't you?
[As much as Boober wants to say not to, he can't just do that in the moment, it seems. This is just something that he knows will call to both of them, for different reasons but still just as strongly as stained fabric calls to him, to tend to. So instead, what he does say comes out in a tired, somewhat whiny tone.]
If you have to do that, please just stick together.
Already? What-- Of course! Of course. [He whines a bit in his throat.] But you said you're both safe? And who were you talking to when you picked up, what am I hearing?
Oh yeah don't worry about it, we're both safe and sound!
[Or- he is. No need to tell Boober Riz hasn't caught up with him yet.]
Oh, those're my new buddies! [Hold on, switching this call to video. Holding it out he grins, then tilts so that Boober can see many, MANY Diglett behind him, carpeting the floor and even popping out of the walls here and there.] Say hi, guys!
[And before Boober can say anything else he turns back to his friends, cups his spare hand by his mouth-] Hey guys! Let's show 'em loud! [-and he uses the same hand to pump at the air, getting a pretty good and cheery DIGLETT DIIIIG! out of them.]
[But his sour expression only lasts so long before a smile starts to show again.]
I'm glad you're making friends with more Pokemon. I-I mean, a lot of them are terrifying, but they can be great to be around. Do they ever remind you of cave critters back home?
[Boober thinks it might be a rule of fate to run out of ingredients at the worst possible time. It sure seems to be that way for him, at least! The Christmas market in Goldenrod is basically here, it might as well be, and amidst all the preparation and recipe-testing, Boober somehow missed that he was out of squash until just a few of hours ago. The snow that started yesterday has not let up, either. But what choice was there? This weather, and the precautions Boober was of course taking for it, meant the trip out the store was long and cold.
He is shuddering when he gets back to the apartment, but there's a distraction from worries about potential frostbite: Gobo is sitting huddled up on the couch. It's not that Gobo hasn't just shown up here before, of course. Unannounced visits are really quite standard for fraggles. It's just that Gobo wasn't here when Boober departed. Boober is still for a moment, but soon he makes for the kitchen.]
[He had decided to come by the apartment, hearing that a market was opening up and wanting to check it out. This place was fascinatig! And getting to see so many trainers and Pokemon in one place seemed like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Aside from different parties and other stuff like that going on, of course. The hearing of the market, of course, had been with Boober describing it and what he was planning to do for it, and there was no way Gobo was missing that, either. All hands on deck, and all that.
And so, here he had travelled! Couldn't miss being with Boober for this. Only, he hadn't really accounted for all the snow that would happen. He had winter clothes by now, sure, having bought them a week after when things started getting cold. But either he hadn't bought enough,or he wasn't wearing them right, or it was just one of those things, because MAN he was a frosted former Fraggle by the time he got to the apartment.
So when Boober arrived, sure he was curled up in a blanket, still shivering a little. Boober wasn't here at the time, but he'd just wait for him, no problem with that. Would give him some time to warm up, too. He looked up at the arrival, and was quick to stand up.]
No no- look how cold you are! [Easy enough to see, Boober's hat was practically shivering off his head.] Here lemme help you-
[Boober scoffs as he hands the round, green squash over. He's not sure if he's exasperated or touched by Gobo's reaction. Maybe both in equal measure. Either way, he's still going to the kitchen.]
Put it on the counter. After tea, maybe between the two of us we can cut it up.
[Boober has found that kabocha can bring very pleasant notes of sweet flavor to the right soup recipe. But getting through the skin is no easy thing!]
[Gobo blinked, looking at the weird thing he'd just been handed. Looked kinda like a spotty, green pumpkin. Was it even ripe yet? Then again, Boober had just mentioned cutting it up. Maybe it was good unripe...?]
Erh, sure Boober. I'll help however ya need me.
[At least investigating the squash kept him from trying to help Boober with the tea.]
[With a satisfied nod, Boober sets to brewing tea. Conversation from him all the while is limited - not due to any upset feeling, he just feels like his brain is still too cold to fully work right - but Boober's not so much one for small talk at the best of times. Case in point, after he places a mug of tea down in front of Gobo and sits down with his own, he goes right to asking:] How long are you here this time?
[The lack of conversation is fine with him, considering he spent the whole time tossing the squash up and down in his hands. Up, catch. Up, catch. Up, catch in one hand and toss to the other. Hey, wonder if it'd hurt it if it got used as a ball-]
All month! [Putting the squash down, finally, he picked up the tea instead. Sip- OHOWOKAYIT'SHOT now he's lisping a little.] I wanna check out the market. Plus, it's too cold to travel much.
[Oh yeah, this would be Gobo's first Outer Space winter, wouldn't it? Boober would have - try - to make sure Gobo was smart and careful about it. After all, there's just something different about the cold weather up here, in Boober's opinion. Not that the tunnels of Fraggle Rock didn't see their fair share of frost and chills...]
Too cold to travel much? [The tone is incredulous, but wryly so. Boober is not holding back the sass. He nudges Gobo's side with his elbow.] For you, Gobo "First Frost" Fraggle? Now how is that the Icy Joe spirit?
[Boober shrugs, not without snickering just a tiny bit.]
It's going to be colder for a lot more than a month, you know. Believe it or not, this isn't even winter yet. It's not considered really winter in Outer Space until after, well, Night of the Lights.
[A small smile.]
If you'll be here for a month, you'll be here for that, by the way. It'll be-- It'll be nice. Not like back at the Rock, but last year Riz and Mando made it a special night for me.
[He fiddled a little with the handle of his mug, looking down at the tea for a moment. Then when he looked back at Boober, his heart was so clearly in his eyes it almost hurt.]
That's why I'm really here. I mean- it is really cold and I really do wanna help you with the market stuff too, you've been sounding pretty busy with all the prep work.
But I really really want to be with you here on Night of the Lights. It's not like you've missed it or anything, but I guess you kinda have...? And even though I didn't know you hadn't had it yet when I came here, I wanna be with you on it this time, now that I've got the chance.
[Oh. He should have expected that, really. He hadn't, but he should have. Gobo's always been someone to make sure his friends are always having a good time. Boober takes a sip of his tea, and when he puts the mug back down his smile is warm.]
That's kind of you, Gobo. [But of course, like Gobo said, he didn't really miss the holiday Gobo is referring to-- He was there, or will be, it's all just the way this place makes time and memory awful, complicated things.] And I'll like you being here for it, too, but... It's okay, really, about the other one. It's not like I'm the holiday guy or anything, and there have been plenty of Nights of the Light back home before.
[Gobo leaned on one hand, listening to Boober talk, his answer already locked and loaded almost before he finished talking.]
Yeah, but last year's was really special! Jamdolin was there, and World's Oldest took us all to see that- that weird super light in the sky, "wigglers in the goopy goop" and all that. And- and there were lots of special moments under that light, too...!
[He took a sip of his tea, savored it a moment.]
I know you're gonna see it, and you know you're gonna see it, you just haven't yet. But that doesn't mean that your Nights here can't be special too, right? No, um, no offense to anything Mando and Riz did for you last year, a'course.
[Boober takes another, longer, drink from his mug to cover that his smile fades. He knows Gobo doesn't mean anything rude! It just leaves him a bit prickly, hearing that on top of thinking about his time here eventually ending. That, itself, is something so complicated and muddled that he tries not to think about it at all, and frankly, he's not about to change that.
So after a moment, he asks:] What made those moments so special?
[...Okay, probably not the best way he could've worded that. Maybe he should've waited a little longer. Boober sighs.]
